Canada has ranked as one of the top ten places in the world to live since 1994 according to the United Nations and Economist Intelligence Unit. In 2016, the Global Peace Index ranked Canada #8 out of 163 countries making Canada one of the most peaceful, safest countries in the world.

According to a ranking of Canada’s cities and safety by Maclean’s magazine in 2009, London, Ontario had almost 12% fewer crimes per capita than the national average for Canada. London offers many of the benefits of larger cities, but with a smaller community feel including lower crime rates. Ottawa is a large, multicultural city with the friendliness and safety of a small town.

All of our post-secondary partners offer first-year international students a guaranteed place in residence dormitories, and have special security forces on campus (including safe walk service and emergency call lights) to help ensure the safety of students. Western also has an official on-site police force, and Carleton’s Patrol Services has sworn Peace Officers by the Ottawa Police Service.
